| History Vivacom has come a long way in a short amount of time to establish itself as Bulgaria’s biggest telecommunications services provider. We place great value and importance on our history and how it has helped shape the organization into what it is today. - June 2004 - the Bulgarian government sold 65% of the Bulgarian Telecommunications Company (BTC) to Viva Ventures Holding, a subsidiary of the US private equity fund, Advent International. In January 2005, the Bulgarian state launched a public offering of BTC’s remaining shares and offered 34.78 percent of the company's capital (2,869,573 shares) on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange in Sofia.
- May 2005 - BTC was granted a licence for the development of third-generation mobile telecommunication systems under the UMTS standard, class B (2x5+5 MHz). The permit is valid for a period of 20 years and the licence fee is BGN 42 million.
- November 2005 - the company launched its mobile services under the vivatel brand. The mobile operator helped bring fair competition to the Bulgarian market, offering better value and more choice. As a result, vivatel became Bulgaria's fastest growing mobile operator following its launch.
- August 2007 –AIG Investments, through its subsidiary AIG Capital Partners, Inc., acquired 90 percent of BTC from Viva Ventures Holding and other shareholders.
- January 2009 - BTC announced the merger with its subsidiary BTC Mobile (vivatel), resulting in one of the biggest portfolios of products, services and telecommunications solutions on the Bulgarian telecom market. As part of the merger, we harmonised the brand, its client approach and product offer, improved management efficiency, optimized costs and secured sustainable growth.
- September 2009 - BTC and vivatel united under a new brand - Vivacom. The change was designed to turn the Company into a modern, open, and client-oriented organization, offering industry-leading telecommunication solutions.
- April 2010 – as a last step towards unifying the two brands, Vivacom relocated its corporate staff to the Company’s headquarters in Sofia, situated on 115I, Tsarigradsko Shose Boulevard. Today, Vivacom's headquarters accommodate more than 900 people.
- September 2010 - Vivacom added a new service to its portfolio - Vivacom TV. This subscription-based TV service offers 100% country coverage and variety of the best TV channels available.
- In 2020 - Vivacom became part of United Group - a leading telecommunications and media operator in Southeast Europe. The company operates in eight countries, has more than 11 million customers and approximately 12,500 employees. From March 2019 the majority owner of United Group is BC Partners, one of the largest global investment companies.
