Hip-hop show and plenty of prizes await the finalists in Sofia on July 4
Over 2 050 participated in the regional rounds of the national streetball championships for the vivatel cup held in 12 cities in May and June. This coming Saturday, July 4, the finalists will be playing in the Fridtjof Nansen Boulevard in central Sofia for lots of prizes and the title of National Streetball Champion.
Fans of basketball and black music will be treated to a hip-hop show by Bobo & DVD and their dancers. Throughout the day, visitors are welcome to view the 4fun.bg demo zone and browse Bulgaria's biggest portal for legal music downloads.
The prestigious national streetball championships for the vivatel cup is being held for the third time by vivatel and the Bulgarian Basketball Federation, with the audiences getting bigger every year. This year's edition saw 687 teams and a total of 2 061 players aged 13 to 18. Regional tournaments were held in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Vidin, Montana, Blagoevgrad, Stara Zagora, Pleven, Targovishte, Yambol and the Black Sea resort of Albena.
Vivatel cup is held in three age groups: under-14, under-16 and under-18. Each team has three players with the option of a backup player or the coach. A play lasts 10 minutes or until either team scores 10 points. The teams taking the first three places win medals and prizes. A most valuable player is named for each age group, and the winner of the title takes a plaque and prizes from vivatel and Adidas. Media representatives have a chance to try their chance in a streetball tournament for journalists.
"We are happy to see a growing interest in the national streetball championships because we want to invest in the young people of Bulgaria and work for their athletic culture," BTC CEO Bernard Moscheni said at the finals. "It is important for BTC to reach the hearts of Bulgarians through sport and culture. The Bulgarian Basketball Federation remains our long-term partner because it is scoring lots of achievements and has been a lasting presence on the Bulgarian and the European sporting arena".
